3.02.54pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 4th Aug 2009

Liberal Democrats in Ladywood are celebrating the decision of Birmingham City Council's Cabinet to approve £14 million of regeneration funding for our neighbourhoods.

Some of the cash, from the Homes and Communities Agency, will support the Council in delivering redevelopment projects across the Ladywood constituency including Newtown, Aston and Soho.

Ayoub Khan is the Liberal Democrat Councillor for Aston and Cabinet Member for Local Services and Community Safety. He said, "The Council has a long-term commitment to create thriving and vibrant communities. This investment will help us drive forward a programme of housing, social and environmental regeneration plans here in north-west Birmingham, where it is most needed."

The redevelopment of the former Crocodile Works factory in Newtown is an early example of the regeneration work taking place. The site will be transformed to provide 168 new family homes for the people of Aston.

Other plans include the 'Newtown young design champions' - an interactive programme of events that aims to further involve younger people with planning their area, in association with the local secondary schools and the National Curriculum.
