Birmingham Ladywood Liberal Democrats off to Conference8.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 14th Sep 2009
Liberal Democrats from Birmingham will be attending the national Party Conference in Bournemouth next week. The Conference, entitled "A fresh start for Britain - Choosing a different, better future" will be the last major conference before next year's General Election. Birmingham Ladywood Parliamentary Candidate Councillor Ayoub Khan said "With Labour finished and much of the country still unconvinced that Cameron's Conservatives offer anything better, this is an extremely exciting time for all Liberal Democrats. The ideas we agree in Bournemouth will shape the choices we offer voters at the next General Election." Soho campaigner Morriam Jan added "We will be debating the things people really need - like tax cuts for people on low and middle incomes paid for by closing loopholes for the wealthy; like creating green jobs to help the economy recover and make our environment more sustainable; and like making sure every child gets the best chance in life." David Nikel, Ladywood ward campaigner said, "Over the last few years we've been ahead of the curve on every major event in British politics - not least of all on the collapse of the banks, with Vince Cable taking the lead in exposing government failure. From overhauling MPs' expenses, to giving all Gurkha soldiers the right to stay in the UK, to calling for ID cards to be scrapped, we've led the way on the issues that matter. Now is our chance to capitalise on that momentum and outline our vision for a fairer, greener and stronger Britain." During conference week (19-23 September), the Birmingham Ladywood Liberal Democrats will be updating their website with reports from the policy debates and the major speeches at www.ladywood-libdems.org.uk David Nikel will also be blogging live from Bournemouth on his Liberal Ladywood website at www.davidnikel.org.uk
