Lib Dems would put more police on the beat

Councillor Ayoub Khan and David Nikel today led a team of volunteers for the launch of the Ladywood crime survey. Cllr Khan, David Nikel and their team knocked on hundreds of doors across Ladywood, speaking directly to local people about their concerns.

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner David Nikel said, "The people of Ladywood care deeply about their area and it showed today. Although last year actual recorded crime fell across much of the city, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour is still prevalent in some areas.

"We took away many small improvements that can be made to the area to make residents feel safer. I will be working with Councillor Khan and our Liberal Democrat colleagues to put some of these plans into action."

Councillor Khan, the city council cabinet member for Community Safety and Local Services, was delighted with the response.

He said, "Many residents want to see a greater police presence. I am backing Liberal Democrat proposals to put an extra 10,000 police on the beat. Labour has shown us their tough talk on crime act has not worked, criminalising our young and packing our prisons, while crime doubled under the last the Tory Government.

"We have to take action to combat knife and youth crime. By providing every region with more officers we can focus on crime hot-spots, have higher visibility policing and instigate more intelligence led operations.

"The Liberal Democrats are the only party who wants to catch more criminals by putting more police on the street."
