Consultation on Ladywood Circus Improvements

8.42.00pm GMT Wed 9th Dec 2009

Birmingham City Council is consulting on proposed improvements to the Ladywood Circus junction.

The proposed improvements to the A4540 ring road junction include:

  • The roundabout will be signalised to allow greater control of the traffic and improve pedestrian / cycle facilities at the junction.

  • Clockwise traffic on the ring road will pass through the middle of the roundabout.

  • A separate left turn lane will be provided from Wood Street into Ladywood Middleway.

  • Introduction of shared pedestrian / cycle paths.

  • Upgraded / new landscaped areas.

Local campaigner David Nikel is encouraging local residents from Ladywood to have their say on the plans. He said, "This junction is at the very heart of Ladywood. It's a tight roundabout for the amount of traffic so I fully support these improvements, designed to increase safety and ease traffic flow.

"I am keen to see significant changes to pedestrian and cycle crossings to improve safety for those on foot or bike. Ladywood Middleway cuts right through the middle of Ladywood so safe, well-lit crossings are a must."
